Bradley University basketball player Elijah Childs faces a sex crime charge stemming from an alleged February incident during the Braves’ trip to Springfield, MO for a series against Missouri State.
The Springfield Police Department on Wednesday told the Springfield News-Leader it had concluded its investigation of Childs, and was leaving it up to the prosecutor’s office as to whether or not Childs should be charged.
The prosecutor’s office said Childs was being investigated for second degree sodomy, meaning he could face a class D felony, meaning if charged, he’d face up to seven years in prison.
PEORIA (HOI) Bradley junior forward Ja Shon Henry has been cleared of any accusations and is eligible to rejoin team activities immediately the university said Thursday morning. Henry and three other Bradley basketball players had been named in an original police report filed in Springfield, Missouri last weekend.
Bradley officials said Henry is neither a person of interest, nor a suspect in any case, while also being cleared of any possible student conduct violations.
The other three players named, senior forward Elijah Childs, junior guard Terry Nolan Jr., and senior guard Danya Kingsby remain suspended. Officials say the investigation is still ongoing to determine if a crime or violation of student code of conduct occurred.
