Cadiz City Clerk Brian Ahart Resigns

The City of Cadiz will soon begin searching for a new City Clerk following the resignation of Brian Ahart earlier this week. Mayor Todd King confirmed to the News Edge that Ahart tendered his immediate resignation Tuesday afternoon. King declined to answer questions about the resignation. He referred all questions to City Attorney Allen Wilson. King says Ahart has served as Cadiz City Clerk for 11 years. He says they will soon begin the search for a new clerk. In the interim Assistant City Clerk Susan Hyde and Public Works Director Kerry Fowler will oversee the day to day operations until a new city clerk is hired.

Council heard a request for funding assistance from developer Scott Jolly who is working to extend water and other utilities to the land along the U.S. 68 Bypass across from FNB Bank. Council also approved an amended budget for the 2020-21 fiscal year and the budget for 2021-22. Due to the budget crunch the city is experiencing, no pay raise is included in the budget for city employees next year. And met in an extended executive session to discuss a personnel issue, with no decision made following the closed meeting.

City Clerk Brian Ahart Cadiz City Council heard the first reading of two budgets Tuesday evening, including an amended current budget and the 2021-22 fiscal year budget. City Clerk Brian Ahart told council members the revisions to the 2020-21 budget included changes to the amount of money being brought into the city. Total revenue to the city, according to the budget, is over $10.2 million, nearly $5 million more than normal, with the excess money coming in for the water treatment plant that recently opened on the east side of Cadiz. The amended budget featured several changes, with the biggest change coming to the expected revenues for intergovernmental funds, showing an increase of $240,000.
