On paper, it was the No. 1-ranked team against No. 3. On the scoreboard, it wasn’t quite that close. The first five Fatima batters reached base Wednesday night, and they never slowed down from there. The top-ranked Lady Comets dominated from start to finish in a 9-0 victory against the Blair Oaks Lady Falcons at Lions Field.
The calendar may have said it was Sept. 29, but Thursday night’s game at the Falcon Athletic Complex resembled late October softball. One swing of the bat determined the game’s fate in the pitchers’ duel. Baley Rackers slapped an RBI double to center field in the bottom of the third inning, then scored on an overthrow as the Blair Oaks Lady Falcons won 2-0 against the Fatima Lady Comets.
No. 13 had quite a night in the pitchers circle at the Falcon Athletic Complex. Capital City’s No. 13, Lydia Coulson, pitched a complete game, striking out 17 batters and allowing three hits and a walk on the way to a 2-1 Lady Cavaliers’ win against the Blair Oaks Lady Falcons. Blair Oaks’ No. 13, Olivia Moyer, pitched a complete game, allowing five hits and two walks, while striking out nine.
Blair Oaks coach Sharon Buschjost was feeling lonely in the third-base coach’s box for the first four innings Tuesday night. Then, in the fifth and sixth innings, nearly every batter stopped by third base to keep her company.
WARDSVILLE The Blair Oaks Lady Falcons are making it a habit to finish their softball seasons with an appearance in the Final Four.
Last year was no exception, but capping 2021 with the program’s second state championship had a nice ring to it.
