HIGHWAYS England have announced roadworks that will be going ahead on the M6 and the A590. The following summary of roadworks over the coming week is correct as of Friday, March 5 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. - M6 between junctions 35 and 37 (northbound): About nine weeks of resurfacing work will take place along the northbound carriageway from Sunday, March 14. A single lane closure will be in place during the with two lanes closed overnight. - M6 between junctions 39 and 41 (northbound): About five weeks of resurfacing work along the northbound carriageway will start on Saturday, March 13. This will involve lane closures with single lane running (at times using the hard shoulder) overnight. On March 20 there will be a full overnight closure of the northbound carriageway between junction 39 and junction 40.
1/1 AN inquest heard that a man whose death sparked a murder probe died in a river after he jumped in to save his wife . Cockermouth Coroners’ Court was told Simon Dodds tragically drowned after he went into the River Kent after his wife Lisa, who was said to have been attempting to end her own life. Police, firefighters and Kendal Mountain Rescue arrived at the scene in Sedgwick to search for Mr Dodds. Police frogmen found the 43-year-old s body after a two-day search on August 13, 2019 close to Levens Hall. He was pronounced dead later that day at Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
A man accused of attempting to meet up with a 13-year-old girl has been remanded in custody. Lee Bond is alleged to have tried to contact the girl with a view to committing a sexual act. The 34-year-old is alleged to have committed the offence in 2020. At South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court, the defendant, of Redshaw Avenue in Barrow, was ordered to spend time in custody until appearing at Preston Crown Court on January 18. A man has been sentenced after he admitted attempted possession of a class A drug. Latham Martin John Burke, of Barrow’s Raglan Court, pleaded guilty to attempting to possessing a quantity of heroin when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court.
