New Mountain Home High School principal talks COVID and 2021-22 year

After 21 years in Arkansas schools, Mary Beth Russell has been named the new principal of Mountain Home High School. Russell moves into the position as current principal Brent Bogy transitions to a new role in the district.  I have the advantage of coming into a building where there s nothing wrong with anything we re doing here, so all I get to do is step in and make it better, Russell said, noting her main goal for the next year is was just to bring kids back in the classroom. Moving forward through COVID-19 The 2020-2021 academic year has been challenging for Arkansas schools as they navigated COVID-19 restrictions, quarantines and virtual offerings. Russell says moving forward, some of those changes may remain, even if they are modified. 

MHHS Navy cadets take Navy Academic Exam

On March 5, five cadets from the Navy National Defense Cadet Corps represented Mountain Home High School by taking the Navy National Academic Exam. The team, instructed by George “Bud” Zorman, placed 41st out of 144 schols in Area No. 8 and 75th out of 1,338 high schools across the nation. Team members include Cadet Commander Gabrielle Moreno, Cadet Lieutenant Levi Pennington, Cadet Petty Officer First Class Rayne Tilley, Cadet Petty Officer First Class Paige Street and Cadet Lieutenant Junior Grade Faithe Ann Hall.

MHHS Career Academies named School of Excellence for Arkansas

Mountain Home High School (MHHS) Career Academies has been named the American College Application (ACAC) Campaign School of Excellence award winner for Arkansas. MHHS was also named and one of the nation’s School of Excellence award winners. ACAC is a national effort to increase the number of first-generation college students and students from low-income families pursuing a college degree or other higher education credential.
