Instead, they found themselves in the middle of a rescue operation of an endangered species. It was all hands on deck, said Brenda Moran.Brenda and Craig Moran had a month-long vacation planned in South Padre Island when the cold temperatures caused panic on the island. Trucks, pickups, SUVs, personal cars, people would pull up and open the back hatch and they would have turtles thrown in their cars three or four deep, said Craig Moran.Visiting the South Padre Island sea turtle sanctuary, Sea Turtle INC, was already on the Moran s vacation itinerary, but not like this.The unusually cold temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico can be deadly for sea turtles.They go into a state of shock, called cold-stunned.
