By Srishti Prabha | OBSERVER Staff Writer - Two Sacramento-area school districts, San Juan Unified and Natomas Unified, are holding special elections on Tuesday, Nov. 7 to fill vacancies on their school boards, with six candidates running for Area 4 of the Natomas Unified School District Board and two for Area 7 of the San Juan Unified School District Board.

THE DISTRICT SAYS IT HAS ADDED SIGNS REMINDING STUDENTS TO WEAR MASKS, SOCIAL DISTANCE, AND WASH HANDS. THERE WILL ALSO BE SCREENING EQUIPMENT AT THE ENTRANCES AND THERMAL SCANNERS TO CHECK TEMPERATURES. THE DISTRICT HAS ALSO MADE UPGRADES TO ITS VENTILATION SYSTEMS AND INSTALLED AIR FILTRATION UNITS IN CLASSROOMS. KIDS IN FOURTH THROUGH SIXTH GRADE WILL RETURN TO SCHOOL NEXT THURSDA

EDIE: THE NATOMAS SCHOOL DISTRICT PLANS TO ALLOW KIDS BACK IN THE CLASSROOM FULL TIME NEXT WEEK, BUT NOW, THE TEACHERS UNION SAYS THAT’S A BREACH OF THEIR AGREEMENT. THE NATOMAS TEACHERS UNION FILED AN UNFAIR PRACTICE CHARGE AGAINST THE DISTRICT. TEACHERS SAY THEY AGREED ON A PLAN WITH THE DISTRICT IN FEBRUARY THAT ALLOWED KIDS BACK WITH HYBRID LEARNING AND SMALLER CLASS SIZES.
