How Bremont is returning to British watchmaking to its heyday

Inside The Wing, Bremont s £20 million gamble to revive British watchmaking

It still irks Nick and Giles English, the sibling founders of the British watch brand Bremont. “Some people say we’re a marketing company,” laments Giles. “We spend around seven per cent of our budget on marketing – most watch brands are up at 20 per cent.” They’ll be hoping their freshly opened Bremont Manufacturing & Technology Centre, an investment of more than £20 million, convinces the doubters. At 35,000 square feet, the watchmaking facility is already making cases and case backs for the current crop of Bremont watches. In time, it will help the company up its volumes five times. Gamble, sound investment or the realisation of a dream to breathe some life back into British manufacturing – call it what you will, “The Wing”, as it’s known, appears anything but a cynical marketing exercise.
