Two Cedar Rapids Police officers who shot and killed a suspect last fall, will not face criminal charges. Today, the linn county attorney said the officers were justifd in their actions. Back in october, officers Brandon Boesenberg and Bryson Garringer pulled over a vehicle and say Jonathan Gossman got out of the truck and started running. The ofofcers say he ran through a cedar rapids neighbhoor and eventually, near ravenwood terrace and pointed it at one of the officers. Both policemen fired, shooting g d killing him. Kazius Childress, before his trial resumed Monday, decided plea to second-degree murder in the 2022 fatal shooting of Cordal Lewis. He admitted to shooting multiple times at Lewis, as Lewis was unarmed and running away from him. He faces up to 50 years and must serve a mandatory 35 years before being eligible for parole.
A police investigator said Kazius Childress identified another man as the one who shot Cordal Lewis in January 2022. That man is the person Childress is accused of shooting a day after Lewis was killed.
