Two Cedar Rapids Police officers who shot and killed a suspect last fall, will not face criminal charges. Today, the linn county attorney said the officers were justifd in their actions. Back in october, officers Brandon Boesenberg and Bryson Garringer pulled over a vehicle and say Jonathan Gossman got out of the truck and started running. The ofofcers say he ran through a cedar rapids neighbhoor and eventually, near ravenwood terrace and pointed it at one of the officers. Both policemen fired, shooting g d killing him. Dci was called into investigate and today, the officers were cleared. Also new tonight, a bad start to 2016 for the stock marketgot even worse. The market plunged at closing today bringing the sandp 500 down tenpercent from its november peak. The dow closed down more than twopercent and the nasdaq, even farther down more than 3percent. For the last ten years, minimum wage workers who come to work day in and day out hourly rate. Today, during the linn county board of supervisors meeting conversations started on potentially raising the minimum wage. Wage. Supervisor brent oleson says raising the minimum wage to 1010 an hoururould help boost the countys economy, decrease employee turnover and reduce Food Insecurity or workers not being able to afford to keep food on their table. The iowa policy project researched how higher pay would benefit linn county. The study shows more than 18 thousand workers earn less than 1010 an hour and more than half of the workers underer that wage in the county work full time and are single mothers trying to support a family. One local Business Owner told cbs 2 news they agree linn county should raise ththminimum wage, but it would not affect their business because they already pay their more. We try to take care of our employees and most of the time we dont pay minmum wage here, it gives people more of an incentivefeeling understanding even if they are not capable of getting x amount of jobs. Now, that they will be getting a wage thats survivable. Survivable. I think its important to get the public discussion started but do it in a thoughtful reasonable, measured approach. Approach. Supervisor oleson wants to create a group of Small Business owners, city leaders and workers to talk about raising the minimum wagehow it would benefit the county and if they did raise it, how they would do it and at what rate.
