Warm summer weather greeted the fishermen on Clear Lake this week. The result is that the bass are now on moving on their spawning beds and the more successful fishermen are sight fishing their bass. Fishing for spawning bass is called “sight fishing’ because you get to see the fish all the time.

Number of fishermen and hunters continues to decline

Without question Clear Lake is one of the more popular fishing lakes in the West and Lake County offers not only excellent fishing opportunities but hunting ones as well. The problem is that from all indications the number of fishermen and hunters throughout the state has been in a sharp decline. On any given day the parking lots at the ramps around the lake are virtually empty and that includes weekends. Even the number of fishermen that compete in the bass tournaments continue to decline. For example the tournament held on Saturday only drew 22 boats.

PG&E plans to remove Eel River dams in 2028

For well over a century, Eel River dams have blocked salmon access to hundreds of miles of cold water habitat in the Upper Eel River watershed, but not for much longer. On Friday PG&E unveiled their initial draft plan for removing two Eel River dams and surrendering the utility’s federal license for the 100-year-old Potter Valley Project.
