Sanghmitra Maurya is the daughter of Swami Prasad Maurya, once a minister in the BJP government, who parted ways and aligned with the Samajwadi Party (SP) just before the 2022 Uttar Pradesh (UP) Assembly elections. The BJP has denied her ticket from Budaun Lok Sabha seat and instead fielded regional president of the Braj Prant , Durvijay Singh Shakya.
Assembly election 2022: As the Bharatiya Janata Party announced its list of candidates for the first two phases of polling in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, it dropped 20 sitting MLAs. Five of them are from the Agra region.
