Marcelina had picked up her husband, Leonilo, from work and was driving eastbound on Low Level Road when a driver believed to be intoxicated crossed the centre line and hit the couple head-on, according to North Vancouver RCMP.
The suspect driver’s car was on fire when officers arrived. The intoxicated man managed to escape before the vehicle burst into flames, and was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Leonilo remains in critical condition in hospital.
