A wildfire burning northwest of Yellowknife is now about 20 kilometres from the city, officials said on Tuesday morning. That means it's moved about 10 kilometres closer to the Northwest Territories capital since a day earlier.
An evacuation order and an alert have been issued for parts of Highway 3 between Yellowknife and Behchokǫ after N.W.T. Fire said late Sunday night there had been 'minor breaches' of lines established around the east end of the fire.
Fire officials in the N.W.T. were expecting "serious challenges" on Monday battling wildfire northwest of Yellowknife, with strong winds expected to push the fire to the south and east.
