A truck driver who nearly ran a traffic officer over in Mpumalanga has been sentenced to an effective two years behind bars in connection with the incident, after he was convicted of attempted murder.

SERIAL rapist Philip Mathonsi (36) was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment by the Boschfontein Regional Court in Mpumalanga on Thursday, 6 May.
The court heard how the residents, more especially women of Marlothpark near Komatipoort, lived in fear as Mathonsi reportedly robbed and raped them.
These incidents were recorded between the period of 2016 and 2017. Mathonsi would normally wait until it was dark before preying on his victims.
It is said that on 11 September 2016, Mathonsi broke into a house in Marloth Park where he attacked and raped a 63-year-old gogo and then fled.
