The Zonta Club of Sanibel-Captiva has received positive comments like “It was way more fun than I expected” and “Island artists really stepped up for Zonta” about its recent fundraiser. The club reported that it is looking back at the “Peek at the Unique 2021 Repurposed” with satisfaction and gratitude. It created a more virtual format for the event that still offered unique elements, but was far from the traditional guided tour of island homes that has been the club’s signature March contribution for nearly 20 years. Zonta’s online auction features iconic artists By ZONTA CLUB - | Mar 3, 2021 PHOTO PROVIDED “Jump for Joy,” a giclee from the estate of Ikki Matsumoto. During the last half of the 20th Century, Sanibel’s reputation as an artist colony grew. Artists such as Ikki Matsumoto, Katie Gardenia and Charles McCullough became household names, inspired by the island’s ambience to develop their talent and build a community. Other artists followed, drawn to the qualities and Sanibel’s beauty. The Zonta Club of Sanibel-Captiva is offering a chance to own a piece of art from these and other prominent artists in its “Peek at the Unique Repurposed” online auction, which replaces its traditional tour of island homes for just this year.
