Red Sox Prospects: WooSox’s Jarren Duran, Jeter Downs still looking for first Triple A hits

The two Worcester prospects with the most buzz going into the season are both still hitless after three games.
Jarren Duran fell to 0-for-11 with six strikeouts as a leadoff hitter in Thursday’s 10-1 loss to the Buffalo Bisons. Jeter Downs is 0-for-10 with four strikeouts. They’re in the No. 1 and 2 spots in the WooSox batting order respectively as they make an adjustment to Triple-A for the first time.

The wait is finally over. After more than a year of simulated games and workouts, the alternate site has finally become a thing of the past, and the Worcester Red Sox begin their inaugural season Tuesday night on the road against Toronto Blue Jays affiliate Buffalo Bisons in Trenton, N.J.
Fans will get the chance to see three of the top prospects in the Red Sox’s system at Polar Park next week infielder Jeter Downs (No. 2), outfielder Jarren Duran (No. 3) and righty Tanner Houck (No. 6).

Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom has upgraded his bullpen this offseason after Boston finished 2020 ranked 27th in reliever ERA (5.79), 28th in reliever WHIP (1.64) and 28th in reliever batting average against (.282).
Boston had 23 pitchers and three position players make at least one relief appearance during 2020. Thirteen of the 23 pitchers no longer remain on the 40-man roster.
