surge we re seeing is coming from the so-called northern try and other countries south. but then there s what we saw when the leaders sat face to face in front of the cameras yesterday. there was a little tension in that back and forth. you had the mexico president speaking at the abandonment, the disdain that often comes from the united states as it relate s to what he sees its responsibilities are to other nations if central and southern america here. and you had president biden responding that the united states is one of the biggest supply of foreign aid across the board e including heavily investing in the region. the president using the opportunity to talk about what hements to see in terms of cracking down on the traveling of fentanyl across the border into the united states. he noted it s responsible for 100,000 american deaths. so as we have been talking about this summit ahead of time, we have been talking about biden s efforts to deal with his domestic politics here. that, ch
what we didn t see was president nominee border, not once. you have to do retail politics at the end of the day. what we are seeing is a new investment by the democratic party in the south. there are organizations that are coming down and investing real money. but they have to be consistent. it can t be this fly by night. i ll share with you, i spent some time in uvalde after the tragedy. i m in contact with one of the state senators there. one of the things that he tells me straight forwardly is that it is an area of neglect by both parties. there needs to be investments. people are basically opting out of participation. when we re talking about people turning out in the board e, we re not talking about hundreds of thousands. we re talking about the elections being won by less than 1,000, 2,000 votes. they re leaving voters on the table, joe. maria and frank, thank you both very much. great conversation. everyone else stay with us. ahead, we re going to talk more
playing into right wing talking points. how does this issue play in that district? well, it is complicated. we know that in public opinion polling, latinos are a little bit more open in terms of immigration policy when we re looking at folks on the board e, it gets tricky, because we re looking at the folks who are most impacted by the brunt of an immigration system and a system that continues to be broken. the other weese is a lot of the folk living on the border are employed by border patrol, so it s not as clear cut as the general theoretical question of, do you support immigration reform? it gets complicated. henry cuellar has been fighting for immigration reform
ending her six-day tour to ecuador, panama and costa rika. migrants are flooding the board e, believing that today the u.s. will be open for them to cross. they are relying on social media apps to learn about what s happening, and a lot of them have misinformation about what s really going on. join us now is our correspondent. tell me about this, this idea of misinformation triggering some of these movements for migrants looking to get to a safer place. reporter: hallie, well, it s not all misinformation. it s so interesting. some of the migrants are reading real information. but the problem is the context and the way they understand videos that they see, maybe some of them have seen a screen shot of a news story that was on a television station in the u.s. and showed something saying the border will reopen for commercial vehicles. then their interpret that saying
