Manoah gets five-game suspension

I didn’t expect this:
Alek Manoah has been suspended for five games for throwing at Maikel Franco during Sunday’s game.
Alek intends to appeal the suspension, but I doubt there will be any change, five games seems to the normal suspension for a starting pitcher. But by appealing, he can choose when to start it, by dropping the appeal say after his next start.
I disagree that Manoah intentionally threw at Franco. I think it slipped from his hand, but I can understand how it looked bad, coming right after back-to-back home runs. But MLB has declared it intentional, and we know they are never wrong.
Saturday Bantering: Semien signing official

The
Blue Jays officially announced the
Marcus Semien deal. One year, $18 million (I’m not sure how much that is in cheese doodles).
And Robert Murray tells us the Jays are ‘in on’
Trevor Rosenthal. Rosenthal averaged 98.1 mph on his fastball, last year, and I’m all for any signing anyone that can throw that hard and find the strike zone.
The big news is that the Rockies traded Nolan Arenado (and a large amount of money, reportedly around $50 million) to the
Cardinals for some prospects who might include LHP

George Springer has passed his physical and his six-year contract with the Blue Jays is now official. For those who are still suffering from the trauma of the Michael Brantley non-signing, there are no takebacks on this deal.
OFFICIAL: We’ve signed 3x All-Star, 2x Silver Slugger, and World Series MVP George Springer to a 6-year contract.
According to Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi, Springer’s annual salary from his $150-million contract is structured to peak at $28 million in 2022 the slight front-loading of the deal allows the Blue Jays to deal with the expected escalation of money owed to their young core as they enter into their early arbitration years. Springer can also expect bonuses for All-Star Game selections and other major awards. The deal means that the Blue Jays will control him through his age-36 year.
