The restaurant scene saw a handful of changes in Lancaster County during the month of January.
Three eateries announced their future plans for locations in the county, two new restaurants opened up shop and one closed permanently.
Here are the restaurants that opened in Lancaster County in January
Witz End Pub has opened in Mount Joy in the former home of Rosieâs Tavola. The new restaurant and bar at 114 E. Main St. is owned by Brandon Zimmerman and Matthew Antol, who both formerly worked at Rosieâs, which closed in July. Zimmerman and Antol describe Witz End as an âeveryman pub, a punk-rock-style pubâ with a menu thatâs âwestern European with American flair.â Dishes include Scotch eggs made with ham loaf, fish and chips, and burgers made with brisket.

Today, Prince Edward County is noted for its many outstanding restaurants and cafes, but 75 years ago there was just one, Bloomfield’s Maple Inn. Bloomfield -The Story of a Village, a book compiled by Barbara Fisher, states that this famous dining establishment opened in a village farmhouse built circa 1810, on Easter Sunday, 1944.
Its proprietor, George Channell, a former Bloomfield cheese maker, had always enjoyed cooking. His skills as a chef soon began to draw patrons from as far away as Toronto and Montreal. Fisher notes that, in the 1970’s, Prince Andrew (the Duke of York), who was attending school at Lakefield, dined there.

Audrey DaDamio is the 2020 Michigan Division I cross country champion and state Meet of Champions winner. She was fifth overall at the AAU national cross country championships (15-18 age group) last week with the No. 6 high school time ever recorded at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Florida. She is the Michigan Indoor Track Series state meet record holder in the 3,200 meters (10:24.78) and has won six regional and three Oakland County titles in track and cross country. DaDamio is the granddaughter of Olympic speed skating champion Terry McDermott and sister of Notre Dame distance All-American Rachel DaDamio.
