Pilot grants to study the health of women and resources for women faculty at Yale gaining momentum

Photo by Michael Marsland Even today, attention to research on women’s health remains far behind that of men, and fewer women faculty are pursuing opportunities to commercialize their research. Two organizations at Yale – Women’s Health Research at Yale (WHRY) and the Office of Cooperative Research (OCR) - are looking to change those trends, offering grants and programs specifically aimed at supporting women’s health research and supporting women faculty who wish to seek funding to bring their discoveries to a commercial light. WHRY is one of the first centers of its kind, formed in 1998 to address the fact that women were largely excluded from clinical trials, meaning there were almost no data examining how a disease or a treatment might impact women differently than men. Innovation Summit to convene entrepreneurs from across Yale and the state

May 10, 2021 Share this with FacebookShare this with TwitterShare this with LinkedInShare this with EmailPrint this Yale Innovation Summit 2021 Dozens of startups founded by Yale biotech and tech entrepreneurs and innovators from across Connecticut will pitch their ideas during the Yale Innovation Summit, the largest entrepreneurship event on Yale’s campus, May 18-21.  During the four-day event, 36 venture teams will pitch their ideas to prospective industry partners and investors in a “Shark Tank” format. The pitches and innovations cover a broad spectrum of research areas including endometriosis, mental health solutions, and cancer prevention.   The event is hosted by the Yale Office of Cooperative Research (OCR), which since 1982 has facilitated the translation of research from Yale’s labs into products and services that benefit society.

Milica received a Ph.D. in Life sciences from the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. During her postdoctoral training at Yale University, she investigated gene profiles associated with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and in parallel served as a venture creation consultant for Yale Entrepreneurial Institute. She won the Blavatnik Fellowship for Entrepreneurship in Life Sciences from Yale. During her tenure at Yale, she worked closely with Blavatnik Fund for Innovation at Yale and supported several successful fundraising opportunities for pilot and development projects. Currently, Milica is a Post-doctoral Fellow (Hirota Lab) and an Innovation and commercialization consultant at the Research Institute of St Joe s in Hamilton. She also works as a Health Innovation Coach for The Clinic at McMaster University to develop business strategies for translational research and early-stage drug and technology commercialization projects surrounding lung, liver, and kidney diseases.
