in a matter of speaking. it depends on your perspective, i guess. bill your perspective is now the newfound minority party. i want to show you a number that i think a lot of people are in tune with now more so than ever, okay? in 2010, u.s. government spending grew by $4.3 billion a day. our debt rose from $12.3 trillion about a year ago to $13.9 trillion today. now, is that acceptable? well, that s absolutely why we re going to measure the republicans proposals by the following yardstick, whether it creates jobs, whether it reduces the decifit, and whether it enhances the middle class, and right out of the gate, sadly, they re going to pursue fruitlessly the repeal of health care reform, which actually will explode the decifit by $143 billion in the first ten years and a trillion
american people have spoken, and they rejected the government takeover of health care, the taxes, the mandates, the public fund of abortion, and i hear we ll try and give it to them. martha: you want to follow through on the house side and make sure you will do all you can is what i m hearing in the answer. i want to talk about the $100 billion and the pledge to america during the election, republicans said they would pledge to the country, they would cut $100 billion in short order which meant a one-year period. are they going to stick to the promise? what we did in the pledge to america was really talk about reducing spending back to 2008 levels. which if we were able to do with the whole fiscal year, reduce spending by $100 billion and i know the new york times today is talking about with what remains of the fiscal year, we re not sure, this fiscal year and look, people are number-crunching and republicans are going to start from literally day one to change the culture i
