LAKE PLACID Seven Mountain Lake Academy students between the ages of 15 and 17 have been charged with misdemeanor assault for allegedly attacking a 17-year-old student Monday, April 26. State Police said they responded to the school at 3:18 p.m. for a reported fight in progress and charged three 15-year-olds, two 16-year-olds and two 17-year-olds, all male students of Mountain Lake Academy, with third-degree assault. Police also charged a 14-year-old of Mineville. None were named, due to their youth. Police said the victim suffered superficial scrapes and bruises about the head and scalp from being kicked and punched and was transported first to the Lake Placid Health and Medial Fitness Center, and then to Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake for further care.
LAKELAND Marcus Roberts, chief operating officer of Second Sight Publishing, saw that local school children needed to read books that held their interest and so BAM! he donated 1,000 comic books to Polk County Public Schools.
“We at Second Sight Publishing strive to provide quality, entertaining, reading to kids of all ages and welcome the opportunity to provide an alternative reading source to help strengthen the reading skills of students,” said Roberts, who lives in Lakeland.
Jason Geary, a spokesman for PCPS, said the district is reviewing them to determine appropriate age and grade level comprehension. Once they have that figured out POW! they will distribute them to the schools.
