Restaurant assistance available | News, Sports, Jobs

Additional funding is available for restaurants and bars through the Restaurant Revitalization Fund. The fund provides emergency assistance for eligible qualifying businesses impacted by COVID-19, according to a letter written by state Sen. Judy Ward, R-30th District, and sent to Blair County Chamber of Commerce members. Registration for the RRF will begin at 9 a.m. today and the Small Business Administration will begin accepting applications via the application portal at noon Monday. The application portal will remain open to any eligible establishment until all funds are exhausted. “Restaurants are the core of our neighborhoods and propel economic activity on main streets across the nation,” said SBA Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman in a statement. “They are among the businesses that have been hardest hit and need support to survive this pandemic. We want restaurants to know that help is here.”

Apr 10, 2021 The Mirror is accepting nominations for its 14th edition of 20 Under 40, which will recognize 20 deserving community members younger than 40 years old in the June edition of Blair Living. Criteria for nomination include business success, entrepreneurial spirit and community service of those who have contributed to the betterment of life in the region. All three components are factored into the final selections. Eligible for selection are people who either live or work in Blair County and who will not be 40 years old until after July 1. Nominations submitted in past years should be updated to include current information. “20 Under 40” is a joint venture between the Mirror and the Blair County Chamber of Commerce.

“I can’t wait to get old.” That’s what Todd Lewis, president of Shoe Fly Corp., said after watching Jeff Long’s presentation of the Graystone Grande Palazzo on Thursday morning at the Blair County Chamber of Commerce Breakfast Club. Long, who now owns 15 Graystones in seven counties and three personal care homes, offered a video presentation of his project to convert the former Bon Secours Holy Family Hospital into a building featuring both independent living and personal care units. “We’ve been doing this for 4 1/2 years,” Long said. “When I started, I thought it would be two years. I thought it would cost about $20 million and we’re now at $40 million and counting. It has been a fun project.”
