Edward Tivnan: The return of a Worcester native (to check out Polar Park) Edward Tivnan It was 1950, and I was a 5-year old playing catch with my father in Vernon Hill Park, a short walk from our apartment in a Windham Street three-decker. A young guy greeted my dad who advised me to “shake the hand of a minor league ballplayer.” I don’t remember his name or team, but I’ve never forgotten that he promised to bring me a team cap – and never delivered. I’m here to report that I finally received my minor league cap – from the Worcester Red Sox. This is a miracle, not just because a Triple-A ball club is now headquartered within walking distance of Vernon Hill Park. The WooSox will also lure thousands of Worcester natives living in distant parts back home to experience the new, more confident Worcester.
