Whitehorse Daily Star: Oldest part of city hall will be knocked down

City council has approved the demolition of the oldest section of city hall as a change to its Building Consolidation project. The project involves the construction of the new Operations Building off Range Road, building the new fire hall on Black Street, tearing down the old fire hall beside city hall and rebuilding city hall, which will become the new services building. During design work last year, it was determined the best approach to a new city hall would be to build a new two-storey structure and remove the section of city hall that was constructed in 1966. It’s the front section facing Second Avenue, where clerks serve members of the public.

Apr 15, 2021 Denise E. Leroux Benware, 80, of Willow Lane, Gloversville, passed away peacefully at home on Monday morning, April 12, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Tupper Lake, NY on March 2, 1941, she was the daughter of the late William and Edna Allard Leroux. Denise was a 1959 graduate of Holy Ghost Academy in Tupper Lake and was a longtime resident. In 1994, she moved to Mayfield to be closer to her children. In her early life, Denise enjoyed working at a dress factory and later became a home health aide, both in Tupper Lake. While living in Mayfield, Denise was employed by Schenectady ARC working in Glenville for several years. Later, she worked at Smith Orchards in Ballston Spa along with her sister and niece.
