The government on Tuesday imposed curbs on export of Amphotericin-B injections that are used for treatment of mucormycosis or black fungus infections. According to a notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), export of the injections have been put in the restricted category.Â
This means that an exporter would need permission or licence from the directorate for its outbound shipments. The export of Amphotericin-B injections. is restricted, with immediate effect, it said.

Bajaj Healthcare on Friday launched Posaconazole API, used in treating Mucormycosis (black fungus) infection in COVID-19 patients. The company has received approval from FDA (Food and Drugs Administration) Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat (India), to manufacture and market Posaconazole API as approved medication for treating Mucormycosis in India, Bajaj Healthcare said in a regulatory filing.
Bajaj Healthcare said it will commence its commercial production from the first week of June 2021. Posaconazole is a triazole antifungal agent indicated for treating Mucormycosis patients. More than 11,000 cases of black fungal infection have been reported from different parts, forcing state governments to declare it an epidemic.
India has so far recorded 11,717 cases of Mucormycosis or Black Fungus with Gujarat, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh logging the highest number of cases, as per the latest government data.
Beside black fungus cases, white and yellow fungus infections too were reported from different parts of the country recently.
NEW DELHI: Amid rising cases of mucormycosis among Covid patients and those who have recovered from it, epidemiologists on Tuesday advised people to not get panicked by the colour of the fungus causing it, and underlined the importance of analysing the kind of infection, its causes and associated risk-factors.
Health Minister Harsh Vardhan had said on Monday that 18 states have reported 5,424 cases of mucormycosis, a life-threatening infection, prevalent among Covid-19 patients and those who recovered from the viral disease.
Beside black fungus cases, white and yellow fungus infections too were reported from different parts of the country recently.
