Valentine s Day concert helps local homeless | Kidderminster Shuttle

From Elgar to Snow Patrol, there’s an eclectic mix of love songs being aired this Valentine’s Day to help Wyre Forest’s homeless. Kidderminster professional violinist and music teacher Anna Downes has refused to allow lockdown to scupper her Music for Sanctuary project which has so far raised more than £15,000 for homeless charities across the area in just two years. And that includes overcoming the devastating impact that Covid has had on the music industry. Anna, originally from Hagley, set up her Sanctuary scheme in January 2019 after being shocked at what she found when she and her son took some left over party food into Birmingham for the homeless.

School raises vital funds for hospice through Reindeer Run

Pixabay KIND-HEARTED pupils and staff from St Margaret’s at Hasbury Primary School have raised more than £2,100 for Mary Stevens Hospice with a sponsored Reindeer Run. The school was overwhelmed by the generosity and support of families as pupils took part in sponsored activities and a reindeer hunt. In addition, the school raised £600 for the Black Country Foodbank by making a donation instead of giving and receiving Christmas cards. Instead children each wrote a message of hope on paper baubles and put them on their class tree. Sarah Shepherd, headteacher at St Margaret’s at Hasbury Primary School, said: Our school always works on the mantra of kindness and we are very proud of our pupils for raising so much money to help others.

Tenterfields Primary pupil delivers early Christmas present for hospital staff

Louie Elwart delivering the hamper A HALESOWEN schoolboy demonstrated his festive spirit and gratitude for the work of the NHS by delivering an early Christmas present to staff at Russells Hall Hospital. Louie Elwart, who attends Tenterfields Primary Academy, delivered a special Christmas hamper made up from donations from parents and staff at the school, along with a unique Christmas card. Louie, aged nine, came up with the idea because he wanted to show his thanks for all the hard work of the NHS. The school shared Louie s idea in the school newsletter, and it received a brilliant response from parents, children and staff with lots of donations coming in.
