Rallies, proclamations, numerous and varied efforts emerged to eliminate the subjugation of African Americans. Often, the cry for justice was led by those communities most impacted by the oppression and racism occurring all too frequently in this nation.  Here, in Detroit we had our share of courageous protesters of oppression who are also most impacted by bias and racism. We also had something unique and remarkable happen. Here in Detroit, last June, CEOs of Detroit’s largest companies held a press conference and spoke out against racism and injustice. Specifically, the CEOs condemned injustice, acknowledged the pain and loss endured by disenfranchised African Americans, and committed themselves to reject and eliminate all forms of bias, racism, sexism and violence within their compa

His duty became to use his voice to preach not only the word of God but also the gravity of the coronavirus. Vann was enlisted to aid the city s Health Department in February to get hesitant residents, largely African American seniors, vaccinated. The virus, he said, has had a brutal impact on the city, and marrying public heath with worship felt natural. I felt an obligation toward making sure that I would not only reach to my congregation but I would also reach beyond my congregation to a much broader influence that I have in the community, Vann, who has been a pastor at the church for 44 years, said in a phone interview.
