For the last six years, the Cultural Centre in Bird Island has provided space for the arts and community organizations. It is the dream child of Bird Island residents and business people Rosemary and Mark Glesener.
The Bird Island Cultural Centre is playing host to an exhibit by textile artist Heather MacKenzie through the month of March. MacKenzie, of Minneapolis, weaves in challenging ways and takes inspiration from unconventional themes including computer coding, gender and sexuality, and social classes.
The BOLD School Board indicated support for a proposed nonprofit to oversee the proposed repurposing of the Bird Island elementary school as the Island Hub, while also moving ahead with the effort to take a new look at the district's facilities needs.
Bird Island, Lake Lillian and Spicer make pleas for bond funds to state Senate Capital Investment Committee. Lake Lillian and Spicer have major infrastructure needs, while Bird Island has plans for repurposing the former BOLD Elementary School facilities.
