MITCHELL, S.D. (KELO.com) Mitchell’s indoor mask mandate will expire on January 27.
The council had voted 5-3 in favor of the mask mandate in November, when there were more than 800 active cases in the county. Davison County currently has just over 100 active cases. The council took another look at the ordinance Tuesday, and Councilor Steve Rice changed his vote.
Rice said he supported mask-wearing but doubted the effectiveness of a mandate.
Rice’s flip made the council vote a 4-4 tie. Mayor Bob Everson cast the tiebreaking vote in favor of letting the mandate expire.
