The invitation came about 5 p.m. I had to think a while before accepting. The mid-June sun glared against our west windows. The weather app told me the temperature hadn’t yet dropped out of the 90s, and the breeze was light to non-existent. Cool, dry air poured from the air conditioning vents in the house. It seemed like a pretty nice evening to kick back inside and get a little reading done.
