SAN ANGELO, TX (Refresh this page for the latest election results) It is Election Day in San Angelo! The polls for the May 1 Election close at 7 p.m. and below are the results as we get them. The first results will be released by the County Elections Office sometime after 7 p.m. Usually, the early and mail-in voting results are released before the Election Day totals.
This election will decide who the Mayor of San Angelo will be for the next four years. Incumbent Mayor Brenda Gunter faced two challengers in real estate agent Silvara Lawson and health care administrator Dietrick Tillis. Lawson proposed an open dialog with citizens to solve problems, akin to a crowd-sourcing leadership style. Tillis wanted the City of San Angelo to become involved in providing opportunities outside normal city functions, like fostering an after school STEM program for children.
San Angelo Police Officer s PAC Makes No Endorsement in Mayoral Race
SAN ANGELO, TX – The San Angelo Police Officer s Political Action Committee announced endorsements for the upcoming May 1 election recently.
According to the PAC s co-chair Sgt. Cannady, on Apr. 26, the San Angelo Police Officer s PAC endorsed Tom Thompson, Billie DeWitt, and Lucy Gonzales for City Council.
All three are incumbent council members. While we do not always make an endorsement in a specific race, stated Cannady. When we do choose to announce an endorsement of a candidate it is because we feel they are best suited for the position.
The PAC has endorsed a number of candidates in the past including newly elected Sheriff of Tom Green County, Nick Hanna, and Congressman August Pfluger.
First day of in-person early voting: Monday, April 19
Last day to return application for ballot by mail: 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 20. Applications are only valid for a calendar year and need to be resubmitted each year. Once early voting begins, the application cannot be delivered in person and only the applicant can deliver their application. Voters are reminded they are able to deliver a voted ballot by mail to the election office for counting only on Election Day. It must be the voter themselves surrendering the ballot and they must show a photo ID.

What the Campaign Finance Reports Reveal About the May 1 Election
SAN ANGELO, TX The campaign finance reports were due Friday, April 24, at 5 p.m. and all but three candidates in the City of San Angelo May 1 election cycle submitted a report. The finance reports give insights into who is financially backing each candidate and where the campaigns are spending their campaign cash.
In the mayoral election, incumbent Mayor Brenda Gunter leads the pack in fundraising and expenditures. Gunter loaned her campaign $15,000 and then received $17,325 in total donations. Her largest donation from an individual was for $2,000. Most of her donations were less than $500.

On May 1, San Angelo will choose between three mayoral candidates. Incumbent Brenda Gunter, the city s first elected female mayor, will face two challengers: Silvara Lawson and Dietrick Tillis.
A win for Lawson would make her the second female mayor to hold that office. If Tillis is the victor, he would be the first Black mayor elected in San Angelo s history. Tillis is the first Black mayoral candidate, according to a spokesperson with San Angelo s local chapter of the NAACP.
