of securities and accounting fraud. these executives still face billions dollars worth of lawsuits where the legal fees are going to be racked up. hundred million plus in legal fees that the government has been paying for, fannie mae and freddie mac have been paying for these executives. third were incurred after the government seized these two companies in september of 2008. greta: couple things, number one, when you are accused of fraud, if it s proven under the contract. i don t know this is a fraud allegation. that is the first thing. i m not so sure, if i were the tarps making the decision i would be so worried about this. secondly, the law firms that are paying this, i know legal bills. there is nothing you can do that you can get a $50 million bill. you are sending six lawyers to every deposition. number three, since we re paying this, we should get this bill

and again, i think it speaks to the fact that the senate hasn t done its job, and it is costing the federal government and the taxpayers money. the senate ought to return to washington, take up the bill and pass the house bill. we have done our work. republicans have refused to work with us to find common ground. reporter: and why is there a problem right now? peter, republicans in the temporary extension of this bill put in provisions that specifically affected rural airports, those in the states of harry reid, the majority leader from nevada, jay rockefeller, whose committee from west virginia sits on this issue. so, they believe that that s not necessarily fair, that it was partisan politics by the house. the chairman of the house transportation committee in the house says look, the government is subsidizing small airports at a huge tax and expense to taxpayers. we can t keep doing that my ho is by putting this in a temporary extension bill, it will make the congress fix the i
when the debt is going up $10 trillion in ten years and tax increases. i don t think we have seen a plan on the table that would do that. i have been a big critic of the majority leader in the senate because we have not had a budget process. we have no real bill put forward. the president hasn t spelled out anything yet in writing. he talks numbers but when you read the details, they are not there. they have avoided accountability and any real votes. that s a mistake, i think. it s put us in a position where at the last minute, as i predicted, we ll have all kind of complex legislation and wheeling and dealing and the attempt to avoid a crisis. mika, that is the point republicans will say repeatedly. they have a good point. democrats have gone hundreds of days without passing a budget
