When I turned 17, my mom forced me into her car, drove less than a block to our neighborhood Bill Miller s, and said, Don t come back until you have a job.
Going into my senior year of high school in 2010, I knew I had to get a job if I wanted to keep my flip phone and take a driver s license course. Surprisingly, the manager hired me on the spot, which shocked me as it was my first job ever. I ended up staying there for three years, and I don t regret it (maybe a little because it s where I met my ex-fiance).
We have to talk about the chaos that is San Antonio mascots.
Sure, the Spurs Coyote in all his influencer glory seems like the obvious choice for most extreme. His eyeballs pop off and he probably has Gritty on speed dial for whenever he s really in the mood for a rager, but I m not entirely sure that cuts it these days.
As a Rio Grande Valley native, I ve seen my fair share of mascots. The University of Texas at Brownsville proudly held onto the Scorpion as its mascot for years before merging with the rest of the universities in the area and becoming UTRGV. The Vaquero now reigns supreme around those parts, but not after a long battle that displaced the native sports mascot Ozzie the Ocelot.

Liberty Bar reopened Saturday in Southtown after being closed since December.
General Manager Craig Goldschmidt said the return weekend left him exhausted in a good way as regulars and newcomers took their seats at the convent turned Southtown food staple. It was humbling to see the return of a lot of our regulars, but we were really surprised that for a good amount of people that came, it was their first time of they didn t know we had just opened, he said. It was a pretty good feeling.
