After a historic covered bridge was destroyed by a snowmobile fire, town leaders in Troy, Vermont, are starting to grapple with the process of reconnecting a road that was left impassible.
“It’s devastating,” said Tomasz Adach of Westfield, who came to take pictures Monday of the wreckage of the River Road Covered Bridge in Troy. “It really is.”
“It’s a catastrophe in terms of this beautiful wooden structure being ruined,” said Maureen McGuire of Newport Center, who also came Monday to see the remnants of the bridge.
The bridge was a favorite spot for high school seniors to take their senior photos, as well as providing a time-saving shortcut to drivers, locals told NECN and NBC10 Boston.
Hospitals in South Los Angeles, the cities in Southeast L.A. County along the 710 Freeway and in parts of the southern San Gabriel Valley are experiencing the greatest capacity problems, the data showed. Many of these facilities are relatively small and are less able to add intensive care staff or expand bed capacity than the county’s biggest hospitals.

The data underscores how communities of color have been disproportionately hit by the pandemic, with Latino and Black residents far more likely to get the virus and die of it compared with whites. Low-income essential workers often get sick while on the job and then spread COVID-19 to family, officials have said.
A look inside hospitals stretched thin during the holidays
MISSION HILLS, Calif. - Providence Holy Cross Hospital is the last place Humberto Perez wanted to be for Christmas. Says the 39-year-old construction worker, It’s sad because you re not with your family. You’re missing them and you obviously want to be with them.
Perez got COVID-19 at work. So did his wife and son recovering at home. Perez is still in a bed at Providence Holy Cross.
Usually, hospitals try to dress up for Christmas with tinsel, decorations and so forth, but not this year. Dr. Marwa Kilani who heads up the Palliative Care Department says, Usually this lobby area is bustling with families and little kids running around with lots of good spirit and lots of cheer. We have a piano over here. That isn’t being used. No songs like I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas on the piano, and no staff singing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.
