The first meeting of the GST (Goods & Services Tax) Council since October last year, scheduled for May 28, will see five new members make their debut. The 43rd meeting of the Council will also miss two prominent members as former Finance Minister of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi and former Finance Minister of Kerala TM Thomas Isaac bow out.
After the recent Assembly elections, four States have got new Finance Ministers – Ajanta Neog (Assam), Tarkishore Prasad (Bihar), KN Balagopal (Kerala), and PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan (Tamil Nadu).
Governor, CM and others expressed grief over demise of Shaibal Gupta
Patna, Jan 28 (UNI) Bihar governor Fagu Chauhan, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Tarkishore Prasad and others expressed deep shock over the demise of Director of Centre for Economic Policy and Public Finance and member secretary ADRI Shaibal Gupta, a renowned economist.
In his condolence message, Mr Chauhan said here today that Mr Gupta played an important role in economic reforms and empowerment of Bihar with his valuable suggestions.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed deep sorrow said that Bihar was benefited with the suggestions of Mr Gupta as an economic expert. Describing the death of Mr Gupta as a personal loss to him Mr Kumar said that a void has been created in the socio-economic and political field with the demise of the noted economist and an expert of finance.

Sushil Modi, 2 others take oath as Rajya Sabha members
Three newly elected members of Rajya Sabha, including former deputy chief minister of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi, took oath on Saturday. Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu administered the oath to Modi, Arun Singh and Seema, elected to the Upper House of Parliament from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh on BJP tickets.
Naidu exhorted them to maintain discipline, decency and decorum in the House and advised them to go through the publications of procedures of Parliament.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the oath ceremony took place in the chamber of Rajya Sabha for the third time in between sessions.
