Last week, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (MFWP) lethally removed a grizzly bear near West Yellowstone following an attack on Charles Mock, a 40-year-old man. The attack happened south of the Baker’s Hole campground. The man remained in serious condition as of Friday, according to a press release but unfortunately passed away on Saturday due to serious injuries. Mock, suffered severe scalp and facial wounds. He was able to call 911 after the attack and was found after searchers looked for him for almost an hour. MFWP is unsure as to whether the man was able to use bear spray, which he had with him during the mauling.

For hunters interested in Wyoming antelope, there will be fewer tags for the 2021 season. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) recently proposed a reduction in the number of tags due to “persistent drought conditions and the record-breaking 2021 spring blizzard,” which created a short-term population decline in herds, according to a press release.
While antelope are expected to “bounce back,” temporarily decreasing the number of tags will help herds immediately. For 2021, WGFD is recommending a reduction of 3,650 any antelope licenses and 5,775 doe/fawn licenses. The reductions will affect the majority of the herds across the state.
The Always A Virgin gelding Sweet Talkin Satin, racing for a $10,000 base tag in the Game Of Claims Pacing Series at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, became the only horse in the Game Of Claims’ four levels to win all three of his preliminary legs while succeeding during the Sunday (Feb. 28).
The 11-year-old, with a $629,284 career bankroll, posted a 1:53.2 victory over a sloppy going, smashing his field by 10-and-a-quarter lengths.
And if he is to have success in the $20,000 series championship next Sunday, he’ll have to do it for yet another new barn. Sweet Talkin Satin has now been claimed out of all three of those prelim victories.
