Warren Montgomery, 42, had COVID-19 and had been in the hospital for a week, but it all started on Easter Sunday. That’s when Roshelle tested positive. She isolated but soon Warren wasn’t feeling well. Then he and one of their daughters tested positive as well. “Warren and I both got really sick I’ve probably never been that sick in my life,” said Roshelle.

The chef at The Big Easy Kitchen leaves behind his wife Roshelle as well as two daughters. A GoFundMe project set up to help Montgomery’s family while he was hospitalized has continued past his death and raised more than $35,000 as of Thursday. “Me, being a brother, there’s only a few brothers up here,” Lamar said with a laugh.  “He came up to me, said, ‘Hey man, you from Louisiana?’ ” recalled Lamar, who replied with a yes. “I got super excited, man … After that we just started to kick it, we became best friends.” Montgomery was a chef who’d moved north from New Orleans and ended up running The Big Easy Kitchen in Regina where he lived with his wife and two young daughters. On Tuesday, Lamar and other friends got the devastating news Montgomery had died after being admitted to a Regina intensive care unit with COVID-19.

Brandon Lamar was at a Football Saskatchewan coaches clinic back in 2011 when he spotted someone staring at him and the New Orleans Saints hat he was wearing.
