momentous wednesday night from nashville. this is a live look where soon president biden will try to convince the american people that his meeting today with communist dictator xi jinping is the beginning of something really beautiful. now think about it. president xi rules over what, 1.3 billion chinese through a relentless campaign of fear and oppr oppression. but we re supposed to believe he is someone we can trust as america gradually gives up their leverage. he is someone we can do business with. now after spending glorious moments with joe biden, hes that he s going to pull all that back. what a guy. well, we know big business is going to go for all this nonsense, but will america? joining me is trace gallagher, host of fox news at night, what are we learning tonight? we ll get to those items in a minute. the meeting lasted four hours between president biden and president xi. we know the four-hour point, they took a walk in the garden outside of the venue in woodsid
morning. as you know, conferences such as this can often be more talk than action. this one actually has some deliverables. the expansion of nato, welcoming finland and sweet sweden, gettir turkey s opposition, a significant expansion of forces on the eastern flank. i wonder as you look at this, evan, the president, central to these negotiations, has this been a success for president biden, has it been a success for nato? i think they re feeling that things are a lot better than they were predicted to be. it is worth reminding people just a couple of years ago you had a u.s. president talking about withdrawing from nato. the french president macron was talking about nato as being brain dead and here we are today, it was predicted at the beginning of this war that russian forces could be in kyiv in three days. that didn t happen because of the heroics of the ukrainians and because of this really unexpected coherence among nato. which was the product of
and going, questions about america s politics, but this is a pretty clear declaration to the chinese that the west is watching, and is watching carefully and warily, i think. yeah. and we already heard a pretty fiery response from china s leadership to the new strategic concept. kasie, we have been talking about some of the domestic issues bound to come up in this press conference, it has been a while since president biden has given one. of course abortion is at the forefront of everyone s mind at the moment. the president has talked openly about his struggle trying to balance his political views with his personal religious views, he s facing a lot of pressure from many democrats and progressives who don t think he has been forceful enough on this issue. what do you think we might hear from him today if he s asked about that? we sure have. i think that the tough questions for the president on abortion are about the actual actions that he is willing to take using his executive aut
diplomacy. now, four months in, it is complicated, things are getting harder. every leader in that room has domestic politics they re contending with, but they re coming out of this summit having taken steps forward, to expand force presence, to establish american troops in poland and most importantly perhaps, jim, that they talked about china as a strategic challenge. we may be talk about that for years to come. yeah. i think president putin sees himself as playing a long game here and he s banking on the idea that president biden and other world leaders who are here at this nato summit will have a difficult time keeping momentum and support going for this war. do you think president biden is going to have any challenges putting forward that to the u.s. people? there has been strong bipartisan support thus far, but could that be in any kind of jeopardy as we see inflation, food prices, gas prices continuing to soar? you know, i think one thing the president really has not done y
was a lot of conversation here in the states as we was going off on this trip that domestic considerations were going to overwhelm what was going on overseas because we had a lot unfolding in washington and elsewhere. but i think the reality is this gives the president an opportunity to stand on the international stage and refocus american attention in places where he actually potentially has some political wins, right, from the perspective of people back home. as we have opinion discubeen di depth, the stcards are stacked against joe biden back home. he s got to leave it up to the federal reserve. they don t have a lot of tools in their toolbox to deal with this. this gives an opportunity to highlight the reasons for why americans are feeling some of that pain. it is a lot easier to actually be able to show and say this is the reason vladimir putin is doing these things this is why gas prices are high, than it is
