material has been a very toxic issue in our politics, and it may be again depending on what we learn. another reason the trump matter is so different, and k aty, you know this so well, donald trump was so litigious, he was suing in the fallout of his, the search of his home, and that s what caused the department of justice, through legal papers, to give us all of the specific numbers about how many classified records, and that s how we saw the photo, that s how we had so much information, that we do not have in the biden case, or the pence case thus far. it is such a good point and i m so happy you brought that up, as part of the reason why we ve seen so much more because of the suit that trump brought. kelly o donnell, ken dilanian, garrett haake, thank you very much. let s talk about how this got to this point with larry. larry, i think as you re watching this, or you ve heard about it, any of these documents and heard about pence, i think you just throw your hands up in the air an
for months now, because the abrams tanks, especially older model ones have been on the table for discussion for a matter of months now. what changed the calculus here are two things. number one, this back and forth with the germans. we heard president biden say it today, at this announcement, he said part of this is about maintaining unity and the alliance. and that is, we cannot understate how critical that is during this conflict. that there is a unified large international alliance that is fighting against, or that is supporting ukraine in their fight against russia, this was one of the first major riffs in the alliance, this back and forth, we have the white house and the u.s. officials openly saying that they were very frustrated, that the germans wouldn t send tanks, so that is one of the major reasons that the united states made this decision to send these tanks. because we ve been hearing again for months that there are logistical problem, and maintenance issues and richard men
question becomes when they were originally delivered after the biden the obama-biden administration ended, where were they delivered to, have the documents actually been stored at multiple locations before they were discovered by the president s personal attorney os were they always in the same locations because they were delivered to the residents and to the biden-pence center in washington, d.c.? what was the chain of custody? who had access to these documents, we have a better idea from court filings and we have no idea from the biden matter. there s a lot of troubling questions that still need to be answered in the biden matter where it s only a week old even though it s month s old since the scandal began with the disclosure of the department of justice. jim jordan and speaker mccarthy and darrell issa and others have questions that need to be answer sod they can be satisfied that national security wasn t compromised and the american people have a much better idea what happened.
apples-to-apples comparison to these two general counsels, david? you re asking me? no, based on the facts in the record, the facts in the mar-a-lago matter egregiously disproportionate to what we know about the biden matter. hundreds of classified documents found in trump s residence, which he has admitted, and proudly proclaimed that he caused to be sent there and proudly hoarded there, plus we have obstruction of evidence, concealment of government records, it is a whole casserole of criminal liability that is boiling in that investigation. this is pretty small beer right now, based on what we know. but it obviously was enough for the attorney general to determine that it warrants criminal investigation. the commencement of a criminal investigation does not mean that there will be any finding of criminal wrong doing, but that s what investigations are for. and ultimately, where the rubber is going to hit the road, katy,
enforcement, policies by the department of justice, and we came to the unanimous conclusion that the department does not charge that statute unless there are aggravating factors present. and we ll have to wait to see whether any such factors present themselves in this case. but if they don t, then this matter should not result in a finding of criminal liability. all right, michael steele, politics, talk to me about the politics of all of this. so i m going to use a foe foundly complicated wore profoundly comp complicated word to describe it, it sucks, it is bad image, bad narrative, although to the white house s credit, they are getting out in front of it, they are being as transparent as possible. even as additional revelations from the reporting of our intrepid team indicates is revealing new narratives that unfold. i think to david s broader
