top of the hour now on cnn newsroom. i m john berman. this morning president biden reassuring americans that the u.s. banking system remains safe. this despite the failure of two significant banks within 48 hours. silicon valley bank and signature bank have now been taken over by federal regulators. all customers who had deposits in these banks can rest assured. rest assured they ll be protected and they ll have access to their money as of today. that includes small businesses across the country that bank there and need to make payroll, pay their bills and stay open for business. no losses this is an important point. no losses will be borne by the taxpayers. the president emphasized the customers will be fully protected while the bank s managers and investors will be held accountable. he also outlined the emergency measures his administration took to protect the bank s customers. cnn s priscilla alvarez is with us. look, a lot of this is trying to ease the anxiety

it s the top of hour on cnn newsroom. first on cnn, another development in the growing discoveries involving classified documents. a lawyer for former vice president mike pence discovered about a dozen classified documents at pence s indiana home last week. several sources tell cnn that attorney turned over those classified records to the fbi. the fbi and the justice department s now national security division has launched an investigation. the discovery comes after the former vp into how classified materials were found in the private homes of president biden and former president trump. cnn s evan perez joins us now. this is getting really, really messy, what more can you tell us about these documents now at the former vice president s home? reporter: this is very messy, especially for the vice president and everyone who s been handling these classified documents. the vice president s team was doing these searches out of an abundance of caution because of what they
8:00 in the morning. so right in the early morning rush hour here in kyiv. and the early times there was sirens going off for a very long time. and then just blast after blast that took place as the rockets were impacting the ukrainian capital here. and some of the places that we went to were in central kyiv. for instance there was a playground that was hit leaving a gigantic kracrater and a busy insection and there was just a seen of carnage at that intersection with several cars completely destroyed. we saw some dead bodies there as well and the ukrainians told us that five people were killed at that place alone. and just to give you an idea of the area that that was in, this was next to a museum and next to a university building. it is unclear that there would have been any sort of military infrastructure there. there certainly didn t seem to be any. and the ukrainians are telling us this is a scene that is going on in many parts of the country here in ukraine. they say th
