Bangalore Mirror had published a story – The lake minded – on January 13, 2024, narrating how the open entrance of Halasuru Lake has become a place for dumping garbage, construction and demolition debris.
For example, the BBMP lakes department floated a tender for providing a link fence at Halasuru Lake at an estimated cost of Rs 70 lakh. The BBMP east zone executive engineer (lakes) floated the tender on January 9. The last date for submitting the bids is January 29.
Now, the residents are not able to have a sound sleep at night due to the nuisance created by miscreants and drunkards. They blame a bar, restaurants, and petty shops at a nearby high-rise building for the nuisance. The residents said that they have already approached Pulikeshi Nagar police, seeking solace from the nuisance, but in vain.
The ROB was initially demolished a few months ago to make way for a new one, a joint project between the Southwest Railway and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
The stretch between Memorial Drive and Camp Road was dug up by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) Major Pipelines Division for replacing underground drainage pipes. Though the replacement of UGD pipes is complete, the road is yet to be restored by the BWSSB authorities.
