The channels were spreading fake news, particularly related to the Ukraine crisis, to jeopardise India's foreign relations with other countries, the ministry said.
In addition to blocking 22 YouTube channels, the Indian government has also banned three Twitter accounts, one Facebook account and one news website for spreading fake news.
As per the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, 18 of 22 blocked YouTube channels had their origin in India while four belonged to Pakistan. The videos posted by Pakistan-based YouTube channels were mostly anti-India.
