Bengaluru, Dec 31: Karnataka Rural Development and Panchyat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappa on Thursday said the newly elected Gram Panchyat members will be given training between January 19 and 20.
In a tweet, he said the training programme will be held at Abdul Nazaer Sab Institute, Mysuru. The training programme commence from January 19 to 26. In all 5762 gram panchyats.
During the training programme, the new members will be briefed about their duties and responsibilities, he said, adding that they would also be taught about the panchyat laws.
World s longest railway platform being built in Karnataka s Hubballi

Hubballi, Dec 30: The proposed 1500-metre plus world’s longest platform of Indian Railways, being re-modelled now at the Hubballi Station of the Hubballi Division of the South Western Railways (SWR) will be inaugurated in march next year, according to E Vijaya, Deputy General Manager and Chief Public Relation officer of the SWR.
In an exclusive interview to UNI, Mrs. Vijaya said that increasing the length of the platform is part of a Rs 80 Lakh project which includes yard re-modelling, tracks, signalling and electrical works and also the third entry to the station, which has been recently renamed after the famous Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Railway Station. The Swamiji who died in 1929 was considered as the reincarnation of Lord Shiva.

Vice-President Venkaiah Nadu s 3-day 3 Karnataka visit begins

Bengaluru, Dec 29: Vice-President M Venkaiah Nadu arrived here on Tuesday on a three-day state visit to Karnataka.
Governor Vajubhai Vala, Minister for Home Basavaraj Bommai, among others received him at the airport.
During his stay, Mr Naidu will visit the Centre for Research and Education in Science and Technology at Hoskote, in the outskirts of the city.
After a two-day stay at Raj Bhavan, Mr Naidu will leave for Chennai on December 31.

Bengaluru– Karnataka Home Secretary D. Roopa on Sunday sought an inquiry into the role of Additional Commissioner of Police Hemant Nimbalkar in the tender process for the Nirbhaya safe city project.
“The irregularities in the tender process make it necessary to investigate the role of Nimbalkar as chairman of the tender inviting committee and tender scrutiny committee, as he has been misguiding higher authorities…,” said Roopa in a statement, hours after the IPS officer refuted her charges earlier in the day.
Roopa, also an IPS officer, recently wrote to Chief Secretary T.M. Vijaya Bhaskar to remove Nimbalkaras chairman of the tender invite committee for the Rs 619 crore project.
