Dakshina Kannada bans supply of poultry from Kerala

Mangaluru, Jan 8: As a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of H5N8 avian influenza, Deputy Commissioner K.V. Rajendra has issued a notification barring transportation of poultry from Kerala into Dakshina Kannada.
In a notification issued Dr Rajendra said that vehicles taking poultry from Dakshina Kannada to Kerala should be disinfected while re-entering the district after offloading material there.
Asking poultry farm managements to be vigilant, Dr. Rajendra said that the managers should ensure cleanliness of their premises. People should keep a close watch on birds in the sanctuary and also at water bodies. Veterinarians should regularly visit poultry farms in their areas.
2 arrested at Mangaluru Airport on charge of smuggling gold worth Rs 64 lakh

Mangaluru, Dec 31: Custom officials at MIA have arrested two passengers for allegedly smuggling gold worth of Rs 64 lakhs.
Officials said on Thursday that the arrested persons have been identified as Muhammed Zahir Aneez and Wasim Marzan.
The due arrived in Mangaluru airport last night from Dubai, when customs officials interception and investigation, the passengers found to be smuggling 1.26 kg gold worth of Rs 64,13,400.
Custom officials led by Dr Kapil Gade and others thwarted the smuggling bid.
Training for newly elected GP members from Jan 19: Eshwarappa

Bengaluru, Dec 31: Karnataka Rural Development and Panchyat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappa on Thursday said the newly elected Gram Panchyat members will be given training between January 19 and 20.
In a tweet, he said the training programme will be held at Abdul Nazaer Sab Institute, Mysuru. The training programme commence from January 19 to 26. In all 5762 gram panchyats.
During the training programme, the new members will be briefed about their duties and responsibilities, he said, adding that they would also be taught about the panchyat laws.
World s longest railway platform being built in Karnataka s Hubballi

Hubballi, Dec 30: The proposed 1500-metre plus world’s longest platform of Indian Railways, being re-modelled now at the Hubballi Station of the Hubballi Division of the South Western Railways (SWR) will be inaugurated in march next year, according to E Vijaya, Deputy General Manager and Chief Public Relation officer of the SWR.
In an exclusive interview to UNI, Mrs. Vijaya said that increasing the length of the platform is part of a Rs 80 Lakh project which includes yard re-modelling, tracks, signalling and electrical works and also the third entry to the station, which has been recently renamed after the famous Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Railway Station. The Swamiji who died in 1929 was considered as the reincarnation of Lord Shiva.
