Union Budget 2021: PM Modi to interact with economists today

Updated: Jan 8, 2021, 06:57 AM IST Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with economists and sectoral experts on Friday to mull over measures that could possibly be included in the upcoming budget in the wake of the uncertainty created in the market due to COVID-19. The government think-tank Niti Aayog is organising the meeting virtually and it will be attended by  Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar and Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant. The Prime Minister will meet economists on Friday to seek their inputs for the next budget, a government official told PTI on condition of anonymity. On a year-on-year basis, Asia`s third largest economy had grown by 4.2 per cent in 2019-20.

Centre invites expressions of interest for 26% stake sale in BEML IANS New Delhi: The Central government has invited expressions of interest (EoI) for the strategic sale of 26 per cent stake in Bharat Earth-Movers Ltd (BEML). BEML is a ‘Miniratna’ Category-1 Public Sector Undertaking, under the administrative control of Ministry of Defence. The government currently holds 54.03 per cent stake in it. “Govt has issued the PIM/EOI for disinvestment of 26 per cent equity share capital of BEML Ltd along with transfer of management control. Disinvestment will be through a two stage competitive bidding process,” said a tweet by the Twitter handle of the Secretary, Department of Investment and Public Asset Management.

Express News Service NEW DELHI:  Disinvestment intentions both strategic and non-strategic seem unfazed by the Covid-19 pandemic as the government is gearing up to invite expressions of interest (EoIs) for ITDC, BEML, Concor and Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd (NINL) in the next few days. While the coronavirus pandemic has put hurdles on the government’s ambitious Rs 2.1 lakh crore divestment plan for this fiscal, officials say such activities would remain at high levels starting early next year. According to the sources in the finance ministry, there is a meeting on December 30 to decide on the final terms and conditions of EOI of India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC)’s sale of Ashoka Hotel, which will be followed by another meeting for BEML.
