Addressing the media on the surge in cases and the intervention by the administration, the Collector said, “there needs to be precautionary protocols on part of the public such as physical distancing and masking. Social responsibility and cooperation will help control the pandemic,” Mr. Bhanu Reddy said. He said there was stock of 8,000 vaccine doses, enough for two days. The vaccines were being added on a daily basis from Chennai as and when the quantity fell. At present, 300 vials of Covaxins were available and predominantly Covidshield was available in the district.

According to Collector V. Jayachandra Bhanu Reddy, as of April 20, the government headquarters hospital is equipped with 13,000 litre capacity liquid oxygen tank and air vaporising column. Of the 512 beds at the government hospital, 450 beds are equipped for direct oxygen supply.

Jayachandra Bhanu Reddy convened a consultative meeting on the containment measures to be put in place in the district. Addressing the line departments, the Collector said, the restrictions vis-à-vis containment zones shall continue along the lines of a full lockdown. There shall be no religious gatherings and festivals in the district from Saturday. Private firms, industries, commercial establishments and eateries shall ensure masks, sanitisers, and physical distancing in their work places. No entry shall be permitted to those without masks.

Earlier, the District Election Officer and Collector V. Jayachandra Bhanu Reddy inspected the strong room and verified the EVMs before they were secured in the strong room locked and sealed in the presence of political party representatives. The EVMs have been fortified with three-tier security, and monitored round the clock by cameras inside the strong rooms. The political parties may view the safety of the EVMs stored in the strong room through the monitors at the election control room at the Collectorate. The strong is guarded by armed policemen round the clock and the building premises is also secured by the police force.

This led to an irate public blocking a few private buses, forcing the police and the authorities to intervene. People employed in companies in Hosur worked till Monday and were let off only on the polling day. Hundreds of commuters thronged the bus stand in Krishnagiri, from where they had to find connecting buses to their native districts. Even as the commuters had set out before the break of dawn to the bus stand, there were no buses even after 10 a.m.
