Coal India Limited (CIL) is considering a policy to provide financial aid to support future mountaineers, according to the companys chairman PM Prasad. Speaking during the ‘Everest Summit event, organised at the convention centre of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Prasad noted that while mountaineering is difficult but also costly. Fourteen climbers were felicitated for successfully conquering Mount Everest.

Priyanka Mohite becomes first Indian woman to scale peak
Three mountaineers from the city scaled the 10th highest mountain peak in the world
Annapurna-1 on April 16. Bhagwan Chawale, Sumeet Mandale and Jitendra Gaware were accompanied by two climbers from Mumbai and an Everester from Satara, Priyanka Mohite (26). Incidentally, Mohite became the first Indian woman to scale the peak after the successful ascent.
The advent of the
pandemic last year started a protracted nightmare for city mountaineers, with neighbouring countries closing their international borders. Most climbers were distressed with their dreams of conquering the lofty Himalayan peaks in Nepal being postponed. But many like Chawale, who is also an Everester used the downtime to train harder and better. His resolution to keep training even during the lockdown paid off.
