In her video, Kikstra said building on the district’s diversity, equity and inclusion work to better prepare students for life and reviewing hiring practices to bring in diverse candidates should be priorities.
ZEELAND The school board for Zeeland Public Schools took the first step in selecting its newest member Wednesday.
The board began the process of filling the seat vacated by Mark Snyder last month. Snyder resigned April 12 after selling his home in the district.
During a meeting Wednesday, May 5, the remaining six board members reviewed 11 applicants for the appointment and selected three as finalists.
Erica Hamilton, Betsy Kikstra and Thomas VandenBosch were selected to move to the next phase of the process. The board has asked each candidate to make a video of their response to a handful of questions.
The board will watch the videos during a special meeting at 4 p.m. Monday, May 10, then choose a person to appoint.
